Technology Dispersion and Labor Market Fluctuations

چکیده
This paper develops a dynamic general equilibrium matching model with many types of long-lived workers, many types of jobs and stochastic transitions between many possible aggregate productivity states. The supply of new jobs is determined by free entry, matching is directed, wages are determined by auction and workers can continue to search on-the-job for better employment opportunities. We show that the model can be solved explicitly and without iteration. Consequently, the numerical calculation of the decentralized equilibrium is both accurate and fast. The model is used to uncover the technological choice set of rms using data on labor market outcomes.

Technological Change, the Labor market and the Stock Market
This paper presents a model in which a partially anticipated technology shock results, in the short run, in lower investment and higher unemployment. Because of the expectation of future lower proÞts, the market value of existing Þrms and the wages they pay decreases before the new (better) technology becomes available. When the new technology arrives, the market value of new Þrms rises, aver...

This paper employs a quantitative business cycle approach to study the main causes of recent stagnation in Iran. Four wedges as investment, labor, productivity, and government spending are separately computed in a general equilibrium framework. These wedges, respectively represent the existing frictions in efficiency, labor market, investment and government spending; they are introduced separat...

Today, unemployment has become a major problem in national level as well as in Yazd Province. The presence of high unemployment has caused considerable amount of wastage of active human resources of the society which otherwise could have been used in various prosperous activities. As a result this situation may lead to poverty, corruption, unequal income distribution and other negative conseque...
متن کاملMarket Frictions, Technology Adoption
This paper develops an endogenous growth model with labor market matching and technology adoption. While labor market search and entry frictions lengthen technology diffusion, exogenous technology arrival may creatively destruct jobs in the short run. Such interrelationships give rise to multiple equilibria (global and local indeterminacy) under which a small autonomous technological improvemen...
متن کاملCostly external finance and labor market dynamics
We study the role of agency frictions and costly external finance in cyclical labor market dynamics, with a focus on how credit-market frictions may amplify aggregate TFP shocks. The main result is that aggregate TFP shocks lead to large fluctuations of labor market quantities if the model is calibrated to the empirically observed countercyclicality of the finance premium. A financial accelerat...
